promises

I wrote this a little while ago but I need to be reminded again and again!

Promises...
Tearing through walls of doubt
melting away walls I built to protect my pain
The agony of loneliness
the guilt of knowing there's no reason for it
knowing I am not alone
The sorrow over my numbness
my rebellion and envy
oh, I want to be thirsty!
Child
Hush
Others have betrayed you
but I was betrayed so that you will never be forsaken
I am your hope
drink, though it may choke you at first
no place, no heart is impervious to the gospel
whether you believe it or not
My grip never slackens
in the blackest night or the foggiest day
if you ask
I will give you
trust.

Do you have a moment, sir; could you tell me a story? I can see at least one held captive in your eye If you have a moment, ma'am, I'd like to hear a little of the storms that traced the lines where my cheek is still smooth Tell me, sir, of a day that one white hair stands for and most of all I want to know what kept that twinkle in your eye Please tell me, ma'am, how you're still smiling though you've known pain and heartbreak so much longer than I have Was it easier to let go the tenth time? lessons from my students

(this list could go on for a very long time, actually.) everyone needs to stop and just stare at the blue sky sometimes. ask questions. make the people in your life feel like celebrities when you greet them. fresh air and exercise helps to keep you from going crazy. rainbows are the coolest things ever. never be afraid to ask for help. pray for ants. it's ok to cry.  loudly.  and then sit for a while - but only as long as you need.  then get up and do the next thing. always be extra kind to people who've been crying. mud is good. real men like flowers.  and killing bad guys, no matter how many zillions of times they're told fighting is not allowed at school. everyone should appreciate jellyfish. food is a big deal. singing louder is always better. and God is the answer to everything.
